Fine Art – Piano and Choir
Goal: SPMA is a preparatory program and center for advanced curriculum that engages students in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) concentrations. We focus on exploration, exposure and excelling.
Curriculum: In addition to core academic subjects, a variety of courses, which are designed to engage gifted and talented students, is offered. Piano and choir are performance-based concentrations that require discipline and practice.
Grades Served: 6th -9th
Eligibility: Piano is a requirement for all students in grades 6-9. Students must exhibit a cooperative spirit, must be willing to engage in learning necessary practices for perfected presentations, and display listening and inquiry skills. There is no academic requirement for this enrichment course.
Distinctive Features of Piano
o Students will observe piano once a week for a 30-minute period.
o Students will learn piano fundamentals.
o Students will not receive a numerical or apha grade for piano course.
Distinctive Features of Choir
o Choir is observed once a week for a period of 1 hour.
o Students will learn voice fundamentals

o In-school presentations (Piano)
o 1-2 presentations during an Exhibition or after school
o In and outside presentations (Choir)
o Christmas Program

o Black History Program
